Every person, from birth to death, struggles with the choice between good and evil. “Purgatory” is inspired by Hsu 's imagination of death, the curiosity of how human bodies endure pain and suffering during lifetime, and the research of dealing with living conflicts. From Hieronymus Bosch's painting, “The Garden of Earthly Delights”, is a world where human beings go through joy, madness, fear, hatred, shame, determination. The existence of human was given grace and joy to begin, but body goes warp and decay in the end. Four female dancers represent the maternal, which own the ability of creating new life “four” also means death in Chinese. Hsu imagines the purgatory might be attractive as the heaven, by the body of dancers, building a stunning purgatory.
